Tsunami

My phone just made the terrifying screechy noise that means a Civil Defence alert. Like the other Pacific nations, we're waiting to see what the tsunami following the Kamchatka earthquake brings us. I'm not too worried for us: we only have an advisory, not a warning, and Russia is a long way away. I'm a lot more worried for Japan.

The last time we had a tsunami warning, we ended up with a wave 3cm (just over 1 inch) higher than usual. I hope that's the case this time too, for us and for every other country under threat.

I was writing to my mom earlier today about that graphic novel artist's dream, that maybe it's not going to come true after all. Lo and behold, several hours later. Guess we'll see if this turns out to be as destructive as predicted or not the Big One after all.

I thought of you as soon as I heard about the earthquake! Lol! The earthquake has not hit Japan at all, only the potential of some tsunami fallout, so pretty different to what she said. Just a coincidence IMO.

Looks like Japan did ok. At least, I didn't see any news reporting extensive damage. Japan's really upped their game with earthquake & tsunami detection and preparedness. Here's hoping that lady's dream won't ever come true, at least in terms of lives lost!

Just woke up, and not sure what's going on. Hoping for the least worst for everyone affected

They were even warning people in Washington State to be careful on the coast, in the San Juan Islands, and at the mouth of the Columbia River. I'm inland by the Salish Sea, so if ever a big wave hits the coast, it would die down in the San Juans before it made it all the way to Seattle.

I got 3 notifications from Alexa saying "Tsunami Warning" and then "Tsunami Watch" - and then got an email that was more useful - saying to stay off the beaches and that the expected impact was about 1 foot waves :D

I don't think it hit anywhere like they thought it would. What a scare though!
