I was surprised when someone said on Reddit recently that he didn't think there was anywhere on Earth that would let you have Covid vaccines more than once a year. He was equally surprised when I told him that in New Zealand you can have a (still free for now) vaccine every six months if you're over 30 (and under 30 with certain health conditions). He said that in fact a Florida pharmacy had turned him away altogether because "he didn't need it".

Obviously, that's Florida. But is it really true that you can only get a vaccine every year? One Redditor said he got one in the US every four months because the pharmacies where he was didn't care and kept no record. That wouldn't work here as it goes on your health record, but I think I'm pretty OK with a six-monthly vaccine anyway.

Today wasn't Covid vaccine day, as I had one in February before I went to the beach. I'm going to Western Australia in October so I'll be having my next one just before that. But it was flu vaccine day. Most peoples don't even notice them, but because of my autoimmune thyroid disease every vaccine hits me like a hammer. So pre-vaccine I've been furiously filling the fridge with cheese and home-made soups and the freezer with various home-made sourdoughs. I'm feeling pretty crappy now, so I'll be grateful not to have to cook over the next few days while my immune system tries to get back off the floor.

Someone on my f-list got a COVID shot here in the US this week - I'm not sure if she also got on in the fall though.

I was actually wondering if we were down to once a year, or if we are still doing twice a year - I looked online and the current guideline isn't really talking about frequency, they are saying "if you haven't had the vaccine for THIS variant, then get it" - so it's more like "have you had the most current version" - which I got in the fall.

I hope you feel better soon!

There are no public announcements any more but I think we can get covid vaccines every six months too. As in, no one prompts you to get one, but you're "allowed" to?

Feel better soon!

From Idaho, when I was in the pharmacy last week I asked them if I should get a Covid shot and she said well, maybe just wait till Sept, we haven't seen any cases. It is going to become a once a year thing.

I am sure if I would have pressed her, she would have given me one though.

I can understand wanting 6 months apart vaccines. It just hasn't hit much here. Who knows, next year might be different and I will!
