Wine charms. Why?

I thought this was going to be some stupid fad that would burn out once a bunch of unfortunate gift recipients had received the wretched things and thrown them away. But another present-giving season looms and here they are again.

What kind of social occasions require the enthusiastic porting about and intermittent abandonment of wine glasses? And if your guests are too drunk or too dim to remember where they put their glasses, remembering which adorable little charm was theirs is likely to be equally challenging.

Just say no.

*waves* I came by your journal while seeking out fellow Susan Howatch devotees, and I just had to comment on your post about wine charms. It was my birthday recently, and my dear cousin very kindly sent me some of these strange items. I had never heard of or seen them before in my life......I still have no idea what they are for or how they are attached, but they looked tacky and cheap and are destined for either eBay if I am feeling mercurial or Help the Aged if I am feeling kind and lazy. Are they intended to cast charms on glasses of Blue Nun or that nasty pink Portuguese stuff to make it tase like wine I wonder?

Thanks for dropping in.

I think you may have discovered the only possible use for them. You'd think they'd come accompanied with instructions for spell casting, though - otherwise you might end up actually changing your Blue Nun into Mateus Rose, which would be unfortunate.
