I really don't get NaNoWriMo.

First of all, it's got a fantastically irritating name. (Or possibly na.) And it's not very Na, either, since there seem to be plenty of non-US scribblers anxious to join in.

But most of all: point. What is it? Writing's not a speed event; not is it an endurance event. So what are you supposed to get out of churning out a giant chunk of prose at light speed? It might be as long as a novel, but it sure ain't going to be one.

If you're the kind of writer that can't write three words without crossing out four, well, OK. It might be a useful writing exercise. Otherwise, you're throwing your pixels away.

This is pretty much where I got to after five hours of a 24 hour comic. It was already going downhill, and there was no way I was going to end up with anything I was pleased with.Whereupon I was forced to confront the question "What purpose is served by continuing?"
