People who join Mensa have the option to buy a membership certificate, which they're encouraged to frame and hang on the wall.

What a strange concept. It's like having a certificate to say you're five foot seven, or you have blue eyes.

You don't think it's more like having a certificate to say you're the type of person who thinks a club where people with blue eyes can only mix with others who also have blue eyes is a good idea?

I bet they have special brain-shaped hats too, that you can wear on the street. And little quick quizes that you can force on passers-by so you can prove you're smarter than they are. Probably you can order personalised stickers you can stick on people saying "I'm dumber than Brian".

It's a special club for people who are smart enough to solve logic puzzles, but too thick to avoid looking like collosal prats.

I've always thought it was significant that Mensa isn't a club to actually do anything worthwhile. They don't seem to be out to use their brains to make the world a better place. They just pay money to hang out with other people who'll tell them they're smart.

I pay for my LJ account. Does that count?

Only if you paid it for no purpose except to be in the club.

They can probably spell colossal, however.

Mensa has an active range of charitable endeavours.

I guess it was a bit of a cheap shot on my part.

'encouraged' like how publishers are encouraged to put 'offensive content' warnings on CDs and DVDs, you mean?
