I lived in Florida for a few years and hurricanes were just another form of weather to us and our houses were built with that in mind. But this is only the third ever to hit NZ. Amazing. I just saw a really good description of the coming event. What a PIA.
The world weather map is shifting so quickly there is no telling if this will be as common as tornadoes are becoming in the eastern US. As the commercial said in the 70's: It's not nice to fool with Mother Nature.
