May. 9th, 2021 01:09 amAlthough it's Mother's Day, as usual I will be doing zero today to celebrate it. Not because I have a beef with my mother or anything. It's s because my mother flatly refuses to let me take her out on Mother's Day, a process she cuttingly refers to as "wheeling out the oldies". We had to have lunch on the down low yesterday instead.
So instead of thinking about my own mother today, I'm thinking about people who can't take their mother out in case Covid kills them and people who have been separated from their mothers because of the pandemic and wonder when they'll ever see them again. My best wishes to them, and my hopes that next year will be a very different Mother's Day.
My thoughts are also with the people who have lost a beloved mother. For them this day and all the hoopla surrounding it will be, as it is every year, a special kind of hell.
