Howl

This is for my US friends who are currently sweltering in heatwaves.

People in the northern hemisphere think of southerlies as lovely warm breezes. Here in New Zealand, there's nothing between us and Antarctica, and our southerlies come directly off the Antarctic ice pack. When they get really enthusiastic, it's called a polar blast. That's what we're having right now. Here's New Brighton beach in Christchurch this morning:



In Auckland, where it's always annoyingly temperate because of our two harbours, while the rest of the country is getting snow and massive waves it's just slightly chilly. Like 13 degrees C/55F. There's even bright sunshine outside. The wind, however, is howling.

I hope you're all feeling a bit cooler now.
