Tomatoing

Yep, it's that tomatoey time of year again. It's traditional in New Zealand to plant your tomatoes on Labour Weekend (fourth Monday in October). However, since it's equally traditional that my tomato crop is at its croppiest the very time I go to the beach in February, this year I decided to get a two-week jump on it. So far so good. (This group of pots is my favourite. Don't tell the other two.)

Fortunately, I don't normally get problems with birds because the plants are so close to the house. The cat habitually asleep in the container full of thyme at the right doesn't hurt either.

In other thrilling Auckland news, we're currently in the middle of building an underground train system so we can be like grown-up cities, and our $13.5 million tunnel borer has arrived and is ready to go. Auckland Council is giving away tickets for an open day where you get to eyeball the borer up close. It's called...wait for it...the Boring Day Out.
